Lord Ganesha

During the Gupta period, Lord Ganesha emerged as a distinct deity in 4th and 5th centuries CE. Ganesha is also known as Vinayaka and Ganapathi, he is also called Ganesa. Lord Ganesha temple is found throughout India and Nepal. Lord Ganesha has been easily identified by his elephant head. Lord Ganesha is the god of beginnings. Lord Ganesha's appearance in Indian art has been represented with the elephant head since the early stages. There is many explanations for how he got his elephant head. Some book says that Lord Ganesha was born with an elephant head, most of the stories says he acquires the head of an elephant later.

Lord Ganesha's earliest name was "Ekadanta", its referring his single tusk. Lord Ganesha is also known as Pillayar in South India. Pillayar Patti temple is one of the most famous for Lord Ganesha. Pillayar Patti is located near Thiruppathur. Pillayar Patti temple is an ancient rock - cut cave shrine dedicated to Lord Ganapathi.

  1. My Hindu friend said that if they wanna start something, they'll pray to Lord Ganesha first. And I thought that there's no story Lord Ganesha born with an elephant head. I just heard 'bout he acquires the head later. :)
